| Tenerife is internationally known as "The
Island of Eternal Spring". The trade-winds, the Pico del Teide (highest mountain in
Spain with its 3718m) and the cool Gulf stream contribute to this ideal climate. In general, the climate on the island is mild and temperate all year round. There are no severe cold spells or oppressive heat waves. The average temperature is between 18° C and 26° C . Because of Tenerifes manifold regions, there are many micro climates which is one of the surprising and attractive peculiarities of the island - with changes of wind and temperature. The most striking contrast is during the winter months when one can enjoy the sun whilst sunbathing on the beaches and at the same time look up at the completely snow-capped Teide in the near vicinity. | The North and South of the island have a pretty
different climate. The North is more humid and has more rain, wherefore it prides itself
of a rich, green vegetation. Unfortunately, this also means the weather is often cloudy
and rainy. The South has many more sunny hours and also a drier climate, wherefore nature is scanty and desert-like. It is an ideal climate for people suffering from asthma, heart- and circulation problems or multiple sclerosis. The West of the island, between Los Cristianos and Playa Santiago, is also ideal for people with health problems and is medically recommended, mainly because the temperature of the air never rises above 30° C in the shade. The average humidity of the atmosphere is as low as 49% and therefore produces normal perspiration without heat congestion. The Canaries are worldwide known to have the best climate in the world. |
